Employees from Stucki de Mexico recently reorganized a major workplace area as part of an ongoing effort to implement continuous improvement principles at the company’s Monterrey location.
The initial focus was on the production wear plate area. After an initial training session, employees teamed up to identify hazards and production pitfalls before organizing and cleaning the entire area.
“We have been building a strong culture of continuous improvement, and this is a reflection of that ongoing commitment,” said CESAR ROCHA, who coordinates environmental health and safety at the Mexico facility.
The process utilized the 5S principles of the Toyota production system – a five-step lean manufacturing process and visual management methodology designed to eliminate waste and optimize productivity.
The system involves separating and neatly arranging only the necessary items on a shop floor before cleaning the workplace and all equipment and creating clear procedures for the work space.
The final steps include creating procedures to maintain the newly established standards for team members to follow.
“We will continue working together to strengthen our habits, maintain a safer and more organized workplace, and build a strong culture of continuous improvement,” said Cesar.
The Monterrey plant specializes in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of brake and suspension systems for the freight rail industry.
